Padmasree Lil Bahadur Chettri bestowed with Life Time Achievement Felicitation by Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh

Receiving the award Chettri expressed gratitude for showering love and respect even at the age of 90.

Nonagenarian Padmashree Laureate Lil Bahadur Chettri was bestowed with Life Time Achievement Felicitation on Saturday at his Dr. B Baruah Road residence in Guwahati by the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh ( BGP), Assam State Committee for his continuous contribution to Gorkha’s language and literature even at the age of 90 years.

Parisangh delegation led by State President Shri Amar Adhikari felicitated Padmashree Lil Bahadur Chhetri with Citation, Shawl, Assamese Phualm Gamusa and flower garland was joined by National Working President Adv Nityananda Upadhyay, National Joint General Secretary Prakash Dahal , State General Secretary Nanda Kirati Dewan, Kamrup ( M) District President Amar Lama, Mahila Parisangh State Vice President Goma Adhikari, member Samiya Subba and National Award winning teacher and author Munni Sapcota.

Receiving the award Chettri expressed gratitude for showering love and respect even at the age of 90. He recalled Parisangh’s Gorkha Gaurav 2020 award he had received in Guwahati and expressed that the Parisangh’s honour is a recognition from the Gorkhas of the nation.

‘Along with the Gorkha Gaurav 2020 title I humbly accept the Life Time Achievement Felicitation from the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh and I call upon the leadership to join and empower us at the Lil Bahadur Chhetri Foundation established in 2022 for preservation and promotion of Gorkha’s language and literature.’ Prof Chettri said. Pertinently,the trust is formed with the goodwill of Padmashree Prof. Lil Bahadur Chettri to encourage the literary talents of Nepali literature irrespective of any territorial variance.

Prof. Chettri is an acclaimed Indian Gorkha writer in the Nepali language from Assam, India. Recipient of Sahitya Akademi Award for his book Brahmaputrako Chheu Chhau. In 2020, Government of India awarded him Padmashri, the fourth highest civilian award of India for his contribution in literature and education.

In February 2020 at the 20th National Council Meet 2020 held in Guwahati, Assam the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh ( BGP) decorated the legendary literary icon with national recognition ‘Gorkha Gaurav 2020’ award which was recieved by the veteran himself. Later that year during the covid crisis Padmashree was declared which he received in 2021 from the then President of India Ram Nath Kovind.

His other book Basain is a story of poor villagers who undergo suffering due to the exploitation of the feudal and so-called upper class of the society. It is included in the curriculum of Tribhuwan University, Kathmandu. Chettri was honoured with Jagadamba Shree Purasakar for his contribution to the Nepali literature and language.
