Northeast Live Editor-in-Chief inaugurates Dementia Daycare Centre’s new building in Guwahati

The Dementia Daycare Centre in Guwahati’s Hatigaon locality got a new lease of life on Sunday. The centre, which was recently relocated to Hatigaon’s Arunoday Path, was formally reopened today.

Northeast Live Editor-in-Chief Wasbir Hussain, who was the chief guest at the event, inaugurated the daycare centre building.

Underlining the importance of knowing about dementia and Alzheimer’s, Editor-in-Chief Wasbir Hussain said that Northeast Live would ensure that enough awareness is created about these ailments which is very common among the elderly in every society.

“We from Northeast Live as part of our responsibility, have today assured that we will be creating awareness. Early detection is the key to detecting dementia. I’m assuring today that we will be carrying forward this awareness drive through our programmes,” Editor-in-Chief Wasbir Hussain added.

The inauguration programme was attended by several families with Alzheimer’s patients among them. Apart from the presentations and cultural programmes, focus was on the issue of dementia and how it affects older persons.

The Dementia Daycare Centre is a noble initiative by the Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders Society of India’s Guwahati chapter.

The centre has a daycare centre that caters to the needs of Alzheimer’s patients and also provides therapy and mental exercises for their well-being. The centre also has a memory clinic, which provides counselling to patients as well as their families.

At a time when dementia and Alzheimer’s disease are rising among the elderly population, organisations like the ARDSI and the Dementia Daycare Centre are playing a pivotal role in raising awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and catering to the needs of those afflicted by it.
