The new outfit mentioned that they aim for the formation of a separate Bodoland
A new militant outfit has emerged in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) of Assam.
In a press statement addressing the Union Government and Assam government, the Boro Liberation Army mentioned that a new militant outfit “Boro Liberation Army’ has been formed on February 1, 2023.
The new outfit mentioned that they aim for the formation of a separate Bodoland.
As per the press note, the members of the outfil include B Dwidengra (President), B Rwngwra (Vice President), B Ankhlai (Army Chief), and B Bwkhangsa (General Secretary).
This comes at a time when Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had said that the third Bodo accord had ushered in a new era of peace in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR).
The third Bodo Accord was signed between the Assam government and the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) on January 27, 2020.
Reacting to this, BTR chief Pramod Boro said that the formation of new outfits indicates that there are illegal weapons in circulation.
However, the BTR chief said that the Assam Police are strong enough to crush any such move.
“In 2020, we signed an agreement. After the agreement, somewhere between 5 and 10 boys holding arms are seen opening new militant groups. This is not a new thing,” the BTR chief said.
