N Kotiswar Singh appointed as Acting-Chief-Justice of Gauhati HC
The Centre on Sunday notified the appointment of Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia as Supreme Court judge.
President Ram Nath Kovind has appointed Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh, senior-most Puisne Judge of Gauhati High Court as Acting Chief Justice of the High Court with effect from the date Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia relinquishes the charge as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court consequent upon his appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.
The Centre on Sunday notified the appointment of Gauhati High Court Chief Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia as Supreme Court judge.
“In exercise of the power conferred by Article 223 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint, Shri Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh,senior-most puisne Judge of the Gauhati High Court, to perform the duties of the office of the Chief Justice of that High Court with effect from the date Shri Justice Sudhanshu Dhulia relinquishes the charge as Chief Justice of the Gauhati High Court consequent upon his appointment as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India,” the official notification read.
Justice Nongmeikapam Kotiswar Singh was born on March 1, 1963, at Imphal in Manipur, to Late Justice N Ibotombi Singh of the Gauhati High Court, who had also served as the first Advocate General of Manipur and N Gomati Devi.
He obtained his Degree in Law from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University in 1986, thereafter, he enrolled as an Advocate in 1986.
After a brief practice in the Supreme Court of India, he shifted his practice under the Gauhati High Court, He was also appointed to perform the duties of the office of Chief Justice of the High Court of Manipur, on transfer to Gauhati High Court, he assumed charge as a Judge, Gauhati High Court.
