Earlier last week, NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu also visited the region including Assam to garner support.

Yashwant Sinha, who is the consensus candidate of the opposition for the presidential polls, landed in Guwahati a short while ago to drum up support for his candidature.

Speaking at an event, Sinha claimed that his fight is against the might of the current dispensation. Rather, he is fighting for the might of India.

Sinha is slated to hold separate meetings with the Congress, AIUDF, and the Trinamool Congress.

It may not be an easy task for Sinha to unite the opposition in Assam with the two top opposition parties Congress and AIUDF not on the best of terms of late.

Moreover, reports have been doing rounds that the AIUDF may extend support to NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu.

Earlier last week, NDA presidential candidate Droupadi Murmu also visited the region including Assam to garner support.

In this regard, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that Sinha is always welcome in Assam. He said that the opposition candidate also has the right to visit the state. He further said that the ruling BJP has no problem if a candidate of the opposition camp visits Assam for campaigning.

Meanwhile, ballot boxes for the presidential polls have already arrived in Guwahati from Delhi. The ballot boxes have been brought in a special aircraft, ahead of the presidential polls slated to be held on July 18.

The ballot boxes were taken to the Assam Assembly premises amid tight security.
