Mob burns down Batadrava Police Station in Assam
Locals have alleged that Safikul died of torture by police personnel who tried the cover up the incident.
Violent scenes were witnessed in Assam’s Batadrava when a mob of 2 thousand people gheraoed a police station.
As per inputs, the chaos unfurled following the death of a person identified as Safikul Islam who was reportedly in police custody. The irate mob surrounded the police station and set it on fire.
It is learned that the Batadrava police had allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 cash from Safikul, who was a fish trader. However, when he refused to oblige, the police allegedly beat him up and arrested him. He later died in police custody.
Locals have alleged that Safikul died of torture by police personnel who tried the cover up the incident.
It is yet to be ascertained as to why Safikul was arrested.
