The temperature has already crossed 37degree Celsius raising concerns on what lies ahead in the coming months.

Amid soaring temperatures and sweltering heat, five parliamentary constituencies in Assam will go to polls tomorrow, April 26, phase two of Lok Sabha elections 2024.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Guwahati, “maximum temperatures are likely to be 3-5 degree Celcius above normal till April 27 in districts of West, Central, Northeast and South Assam”.

With temperatures already hitting 37 degrees Celsius, if the met department’s forecast is anything to go by then, temperatures are likely to breach the 40-degree Celsius mark in the next couple of days making April a very hot month.

The Met Department has said that the temperatures are soaring due to mostly clear sky to partly cloudy sky conditions during day time and high solar isolation.

Kajalgaon recorded a high of 37.2 degree Celsius on Wednesday, the Met department said in its weather bulletin.

Dhubri, Guwahati, Nalbari, Barpeta, Kokrajhar and Gossaigaon too have been reeling under intense heatwave conditions.

Authorities are making special arrangements to ensure that voting is not disrupted due to the sweltering heat.
