The last rites of Neel Pawan Baruah, eminent artist from Assam will be performed at Navagraha crematorium, Guwahati with full state honours at 2 pm today.
Artist Neel Pawan Baruah breathed his last on Friday afternoon at the age of 86.
Baruah was admitted to the Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH) on September 22 with high fever and was undergoing treatment there.
Born at Tamulisinga village in Eastern Assam’s Jorhat district, Baruah established himself as a prolific painter, who was known for taking to unusual mediums to portray his paintings.

Baruah joined art lessons in New Delhi after completing his education at Santiniketan in West Bengal.
A collection of 87 of paintings of Baruah were on display in 2012 at the State Art Gallery here as part of a program undertaken by the Nabakanta Baruah Foundation.
In 2021, Neel Pawan Baruah was bestowed the ‘Assam Sourabh’ award by the Government of Assam.
