Justice Ranjan Gogoi takes oath as 46th Chief Justice of India

In a historic day for Assam, Justice Ranjan Gogoi was sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of India at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday.

Justice Gogoi succeeds Justice Dipak Mishra who retired from his post yesterday. Justice Gogoi was administered the oath by President Ram Nath Kovind.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and other dignitaries attended the ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan’s Darbar Hall.

Also present at the function was Justice Gogoi’s mother and two prominent persons from his hometown Dibrugarh.

Justice Gogoi is the first from the Northeast to become Chief Justice of India. His tenure as the country’s Chief Justice will remain till November 19, 2019.
