Jobless Assam man fakes as train ticket checker, arrested; requests Govt for a job

First Published: 24th September, 2023 15:03 IST

Pappu Das a resident of Katigorah constituency disclosed that he is a graduate from the Diphu Government College

Bizarre but true…A youth who impersonated himself as a TTE (Train Ticket Examiner) and subsequently apprehended by the police, has appealed the government to provide him a job.

Pappu Das in his early 20s was apprehended today from a local train travelling from Dullabcherra – Silchar, by the passengers at Silchar in Assam’s Cachar district.

Initially the accused was seen collecting fine from those travelling without tickets.

But the passengers soon could sense something wrong about the behaviour of Pappu Das (fake TTE) and asked for documents to verify his identity as a TTE. However, he could not produce any relevant documents to verify himself that he is a TTE. Following this the passengers informed the matter to the Railway Police, and Pappu Das was apprehended.

One of the passengers said, “He could not produce any valid documents to prove that he is a TTE. After that he spoke over the phone and called some of his associates. After that I disconnected his phone and asked him to call the Railway Police instead. After that we brought his here (Railway Police Station).”

Another person who was also fined by Pappu said, “I asked for the cash receipt, but he said it was not with him. After that everyone got suspicious and handed him over to the Railway Police.

Soon after landing in cop net, the accused revealed that he has completed graduation from the Diphu Government College and aspires to serve as a government employee.

He further said, “I had applied for job but could not find any. I hope to work with the Railway Department. I request the government to provide me a job.”
