Intense Heat Wave in Guwahati: Kamrup (M) District Administration Revises School Timings, Issues Advisory to Schools

In response to the ongoing intense heatwave in Guwahati, the Kamrup Metro (M) District Administration has issued directives to all government-run as well as private schools to revise school timing and to take other proactive measures prioritizing the health and well-being of students effective September 21.

  1. Schools are advised to start classes at 7:30 AM and end by 12:30 PM.
  2. Schools are asked to conduct morning assemblies inside classrooms to protect students from the heat.
  3. Students are advised not to wear waistcoats or ties during this period to ensure their comfort.
  4. Schools are asked to ensure all fans are functional and classrooms well-ventilated.

Additionally, schools are asked to arrange alternate power backups in case of power cuts.

Assam and other Northeastern regions are witnessing an unusual rise in temperatures and according to India Meteorological Department (IMD), the conditions will remain the same and day temperature likely to be above 4–5° Celcius for another 3-4 days.

Today’s temperature in Guwahati is 37°Celsius.
