Former Congress leader Ripun Bora who recently joined the All India Trinamool Congress party on Monday said that he left the party after serving 40 years due to infighting which has led to the growth of Bharatiya Janata Party.

“Congress being the grand old party should have been fighting the BJP but in the grass-root level it is fighting amongst each other,” Bora commented.

Stating that he does not have any grievance against party leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Bora asserted, “After serving 40 years for the congress party, yesterday, with a heavy heart I resigned due to some strategical point, policy matter and ideological points.”

“The way Mamata Banerjee fought with the BJP aggressively and successfully, I am convinced that only TMC party will be able to prevent BJP,” the former APCC chief state.

“So far my state perspective is concerned, my state leaders also do not want me to serve for the Congress party. Since I was a president, with one hand I had to fight the BJP and with the other I had to fight the inner party conflict. And because of the inner fights people lost faith the party,” Ripun Bora commented.

Ripun Bora has joined the All India Trinamool Congress after resigning from the party on Sunday. He sent his resignation letter to Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi informing her of his decision where he blamed the infighting within the party for his decision.

Meanwhile, the senior Congress party leaders from Assam have reacted sharply to Bora’s resignation. Coming down heavily on Ripun Bora, CLP leader Debabrata Saikia said that he has shown his ‘selfish nature” for his personal interest.

Earlier APCC president Bhupen Bora said that he was shocked by Bora’s move. “I think he lost his integrity and he has now proved that his only intention is to engage himself in some suitable post and he is not committed to his ideology,” Bora said.
