A faculty member of the Indian Institute of Technology-Guwahati (IIT-G) in Assam was found dead inside the institute’s residential quarter.
The deceased has been identified as 47-year-old Dr Sameer Kamal, a faculty in the Mathematics Department of IIT-Guwahati.
Kamal was found hanging from the ceiling fan inside the quarter.
As per sources, police recovered his body from inside Faculty Quarter D 022 on Friday evening.
On Friday evening, police received information from the Institute that foul smell was coming from the locked Faculty Quarter.
Later the door was opened in the presence of Magistrate, Officer-in-Charge of North Guwahati police station, In-charge Amingaon outpost, Superintendent of Police of Kamrup district Hitesh Ch. Roy told ANI.
The body has been sent for post mortem examination.
It has been suspected that Dr Sameer Kamal had allegedly committed suicide two-three days back.
Meanwhile, IIT-Guwahati issuing a statement said that they are trying to establish contact with the family of Dr Sameer Kamal.
The institute expressed its deepest condolences to the family. The Institute will cooperate with the police investigation and will also commission an internal investigation on this matter, the statement added.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur and Tripura.
