In a big breakthrough, the Assam Police busted an interstate drugs smuggling racket and seized heroin worth a whopping Rs 18 crore. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, a team led by DIG Partha Sarathi Mahanta and Additional CP (Central) Kalyan Kumar Pathak intercepted an SUV at Amingaon, on frisking the vehicle heroin packed in 170 soap cases were recovered.
The contraband weighing 2.5kg was found concealed inside a secret chamber of the SUV. Inputs suggest that the consignment was brought from Churachandpur in Manipur. Six drug peddlers involved in the case have been arrested. The arrested drug peddlers are-Khalilur Rahman (Kamrup, Assam), Enamul Ali (Darrang, Assam), Abdul Ali (Kamrup, Assam), Gogo Dongmo, Gogo Haokip and Ron Hmar (all 3 from Manipur).
Briefing about the seizure, DIG Partha Sarathi Mahanta informed, “Among those arrested Khalilur is the most dreaded who was operating in Guwahati, police were on a lookout for him. He was evading the police, but he has been arrested now. The consignment was brought from Churachandpur in Manipur. The weight of the consignment is around 2.2 kg and the value is estimated to be Rs 18 crore.”
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to X (formerly known as Twitter) and lauded the efforts of the police in the war against drugs. CM Sarma in his post stated, “In a special anti-drugs operation carried out by the @STFAssam, a vehicle coming from a neighbouring State was intercepted at Amingaon & 2.2 kg of heroin has been recovered.

This is the second big seizure within 24 hours. Late Sunday, in yet another operation heroin with an estimated market value of Rs 21 crore was seized in the Jorabat area.
The drugs, weighing 2.527 kilograms, were concealed in 198 soap boxes. The drugs were smuggled from Manipur to Guwahati.
The drug smugglers were identified as – Md Jamir, Md Yakup, and Md Amir Khan, all from Thoubal, Manipur. The smugglers have been apprehended by the police.
