Has the ULFA-Independent executed more cadres?
Former AASU leader Biju Gogoi, who had joined ULFA-Independent during the CAA agitation was shot dead.
Assam Police has accessed some leads where it seems that at least 13-14 cadres who had joined the rebel group have been shot dead for different reasons.
Tinsukia SP Debojit Deuri informed this after the arrest of a new recruit identified as Santosh Lama alias Apu Asom.
During interrogation, Santosh revealed that former AASU leader Biju Gogoi, who had joined ULFA-Independent during the CAA agitation was shot dead.
Additionally, Apu Asom also revealed that 5 more youths had joined the proscribed outfit along with him, and all of them were in the ULFA-I camp for over 5 months. He said that the ULFA-I was working in tandem with NSCN cadres.
The police, on the other hand, suspect that at least 35 youths had joined the ULFA-I along with Apu Asom and Biju Gogoi, out of which around 14 youths have been killed by the outfit on account of being spies or trying to escape the camp.
The police, however, are in touch with the family members of a number of youths who had joined the ULFA-I, to find out if they have received any information.
Meanwhile, the family members of Biju Gogoi are devastated on learning the news of his death and have demanded a clarification from the ULFA-I. Biju Gogoi’s mother had also fallen sick on learning about her son’s death.
Speculations still prevail as to why the ULFA-Independent might have resorted to executing the youths.
It needs to be mentioned that it was only on May 7, when ULFA-I Chief Paresh Baruah had confirmed the execution of two spies allegedly planted in the ULFA-I by the Assam Police and the Army.
