Guwahati to host first-ever Coal India Half Marathon on Dec 3

Guwahati is all set to host the first-ever Coal India Guwahati Half Marathon on December 3. The registration for the marathon will open tomorrow from 7 a.m.
The event sponsored by public sector behemoth Coal India, supported by Indian Army and endorsed by Government of Assam, will have races in three categories- the half marathon (21.097 km), the open 10 km, and the Guwahati Fun Run (approximately 5 km).
The Guwahati Half Marathon marks a significant moment to showcase the Indian Army’s commitment to nation-building and the Assam Government’s dedication in fostering physical fitness, mental resilience, and the spirit of togetherness.
A program was organised today in Guwahati to launch the Coal India Guwahati Half Marathon, which was attended by Nandita Gorlosa, Minister of Sports & Youth Welfare, Lt General Rana Pratap Kalita, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command, Renu Chaturvedi, GM, CSR, Coal India, and many more esteemed guests.
Speaking at the occasion, Minister of Sports & Youth Welfare, Nandita Gorlosa said, “The event has been conceptualised to put Assam on the Marathon map of India and showcase our commitment in promoting a healthy and active lifestyle while fostering a sense of unity and national pride amongst all of us. She also announced that many events showcasing ‘Assam Shining’ will be conducted every year to epitomise the Govt’s unwavering dedication to the wellbeing of the citizens.”
General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Command, Lieutenant General Rana Pratap Kalita, said, “The state with its rich natural resources, cultural heritage and strategic location has been emerging as a region with immense potential & growth. The Indian Army wholeheartedly supports the Coal India Guwahati Half Marathon to celebrate long lasting civil military cooperation in building a safe, secure and prosperous Assam.”
He also lauded contribution of Coal India as title sponsor of the event and playing a very crucial role in enabling the state government and the Indian Army in conceptualising and planning this event.
Speaking to the media, Lt General Rana Pratap Kalita, said that the moto of the half-marathon is to promote fitness among the people of the state.
He also urged the people of Assam to participate in the event to make the marathon a success.
The Half Marathon is open to all age groups, and special prizes will be given to the winners in various categories.
