Guwahati Railway Station to be transformed into world-class station soon

The Kamakhya Railway Station will also be modernised at a cost of Rs 200–300 crores

A mega facelift is on the cards for the Guwahati Railway Station. The Assam Government is planning to transform Guwahati Railway Station into a world-class station soon with an expenditure of approximately Rs 700-800 crores, said General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railways Chetan Kumar Shrivastava.
Additionally, the Kamakhya Railway Station will also be modernised at a cost of between Rs 200–300 crores and a third line will be built between these two stations, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava told Northeast Live.

However, because there is no second entrance to the Guwahati Railway Station, it has become the biggest obstacle in the project. Therefore, the Assam government has worked out a formula and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Northern Frontier Railway to exchange land of the ASTCs premises in Paltanbazar to NF Railways to build the second entrance to Guwahati railway Station.

“We require land on another site of Guwahati railway station to build the second entrance to the station. And since there is an ASTC bus stop in Paltanbazar, we worked out a formula to relocate the ASTC bus stop from there and construct the second entry there,” said Chetan Kumar Shrivastava.

According to the MoU, a total of 20 bighas of land would be handed over to the NF Railways by the ASTC.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter and wrote, “We are building a state-of-the-art bus station & a world-class railway station worth ₹700 cr in Guwahati. To facilitate this, we signed an MoU to exchange land between Railways & Assam Govt. The Double Engine Govt continues its high speed journey!”
