Locals said that the civic authorities had not repaired or restored the railing for years which has increased the risk for the commuters. They said that water was gushing through the drain owing to the heavy downpour in the morning.
Moreover, due to incessant rain that the city has been experiencing for the past several days, several parts of the city has been flooded. Road repair, water pipeline laying work that was going on had to be stopped midway leaving drains open, and roads with ditches and pot holes.
With most roads under water, it has become very difficult for pedestrians and even people in cars and two-wheelers to figure out if they are walking or driving into an open drain or a deep dug pot hole. Many footpaths with open manholes too is posing threat to people’s lives in the city.
