Guwahati hosts first NE Half Marathon to empower Youths & Sports

Union Minister of State for Sports and Youth Affairs Nisith Pramanik & other dignitaries flagged off the half marathon where 7000 runners from across the nation participated.
The first ever series of half marathons titled the Northeast Half Marathon got underway today in Guwahati with the motto of Empowering the Youth and Sports activities in the Northeast.
The event is being organized by the NF Railway jointly with Innovations India.

It aims towards the empowerment of sportspersons and the development of North East India in line with the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of Developing Northeast and Nation Building.

Speaking on the occasion, the union minister said, “For the first time, North East Frontier Railway organised such a grand half marathon. I thank the PM for his nationwide Fit India Movement. Such half-marathons should be organised in every state. We had around 7000 participants from across the country.”

The first leg of the event which kick-started in Guwahati today, will be followed by Tawang on March 12 and Darjeeling on February 26.
