Guwahati fake call center case: Bureaucrat’s absconding son arrested

Tasdiqur Rahman is a prime accused in the case of fake centers operating in Guwahati to dupe people
One of the kingpins behind operating fake call centres in Guwahati to dupe people, Tasdiqur Rahman has been arrested by the Assam Police. Son of a bureaucrat, Tasdiqur was evading arrest ever since his name surfaced as one of the prime accused.
Tasdiqur Rahman was arrested from an apartment at the Gandhibasti locality in Guwahati.
At least 8 call centres in the city used to dupe people in India and abroad, were busted and 191 people involved in operating the centres, including three other masterminds were arrested on September 15.
Multiple raids were carried out in early September this year (2023) in Guwahati based on specific intelligence inputs and ultimately the fake call center racket was busted.
Debojoti Dey alias David, Rajan Sidana, Divyam Arora -the 3 masterminds were apprehended by the police.
Guwahati Commissioner of Police Diganta Barah who led the operations had informed, “These scammers they impersonate as some kind of genuine tech support staff, or customer service staff, they target gullible victims and they somehow in the process of conversation they instill some kind of fear in the mind of any targetted victim and extract personal informations. These, personal informations the scammers use to convert into monetary transactions.”
