Bandana Kalita, the prime accused in the sensational Guwahati-double murder case of 2022 that came to the light earlier this year, has been granted bail by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Kamrup Metro.

Bandana Kalita, who is accused of killing and disposing off the bodies of her husband and mother-in-law, was granted bail under the condition that she appears before the Noonmati police twice a week.

The court further ordered that Bandana Kalita will have to seek court’s prior permission for travelling out of the city.

It may be mentioned here that Kalita in July 2022 had killed her husband and mother in-law and chopped their bodies before disposing off the body parts in Meghalaya.

Two of her accomplices- Arup Deka and Dhanti Deka- had already been granted bail by the court.

During investigations it came to light that Bandana Kalita, the prime accused in the murder case had allegedly paid Rs 2 lakhs to one of the co-accused Arup Deka to help her commit the gruesome crime. Arup took the money to get married which he confessed to the police.

Bandana, with the help of Dhanti and Arup had killed and chopped her husband and mother-in-law, stored the body parts in the fridge for three days before dumping the body parts in Dawki in the neighbouring state of Meghalaya.

It came to light on February 17, 2023, seven months after the crime was committed on August 22, 2022.
On February 21, the police recovered parts of Bandana’s husband Amarjyoti De at Dawki road in Meghalaya wrapped in a plastic bag.
