Gujarat MLA Jignesh Mevani who was arrested by Assam police last night has been taken to Kokrajhar in Bodoland Territorial Region, Assam.
Mevani was arrested from a Circuit House at Palanpur in Gujarat last night after an FIR was filed against him at the Kokrajhar police station.
Mewani, who is also the convenor of the Rashtriya Dalit Adhikar Manch, has been arrested for his alleged controversial remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, following which an FIR was filed on April 18 at the Kokrajhar Police Station.
Meanwhile when the media asked Assam Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in Guwahati on Jignesh Mevani’s arrest he said that he was not aware of such development as of the moment. Reacting to Congress’ allegations of vindictiveness the Assam CM added that if such a development had taken place then it was similar to the happenings of the Congress ruled state. “IPC and CrPC are similar all over India” and arrests have been made in accordance to law.
