Continuing its war on drugs, the Assam Police have recovered over 1 quintal of Ganja estimated to cost Rs 4 crore from a water tank of a passenger train and arrested four persons in the connection.
As per the latest inputs, the seizure was made from the Rani Kamalavati Agartala Express after railway police cut open the iron water tank past midnight yesterday.
It reportedly took almost 4.5 hours for the officials to break open the water tank after which they recovered as many as 87 packets of Ganja.
Further, it has been learnt that the drug peddler himself locked the chamber and kept the keys with him.
The Police suspect that an estimated 3 quintals of Ganja was brought in the train, of which, 39 packets have been seized in Hojai.
The police, in fact, rigorously inspected two coaches of the train until 6 this morning.
The special operation had to be halted after passengers hailing from Madhya Pradesh expressed displeasure for having made to wait for hours in the station.
Meanwhile, four persons have been arrested in connection to the case.
It may be mentioned here that it for the first time that such a case of drug smuggling via train has been reported in Assam.
