Flood situation improving gradually: Assam CM Sarma

However, Chief Minister Sarma informed that the stretch of road from Jatinga to Haflong is in a bad condition.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that there is a slight improvement in the situation with vehicular movement being restored to the Barak valley. Besides, minimum vehicle movement has also resumed to Haflong.

Meanwhile, 14 tonnes of food items as part of the relief measures have been dispatched to floods and landslide ravaged Dima Hasao from the IAF airbase in Eastern Assam’s Jorhat district.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Sarma informed that flight services between Guwahati and Silchar will resume this evening.

The DC’s of all the affected districts have been directed to ensure proper relief measures, medical services to the flood and landslide victims. The DC’s have also been directed to carry out the evacuation of affected people to safer locations.

On the other hand, the Indian Air Force is engaged in intensive rescue operations in floods and landslides-hit Assam.

As part of its mission, the Indian Air Force rescued several individuals from Haflong braving inclement weather.

Meanwhile, Hills Area Development Minister Jogen Mohan is in Haflong to take stock of the situation.

Speaking to media persons, Minister Jogen Mohan said that all steps have been taken to ensure that there is no shortage of essentials in case of a fresh blockade
