Flood scenario continues to be serious in parts of Assam

The flood scenario continues to be serious in several parts of Assam. Large parts of eastern Assam are inundated owing to heavy rains for the past several days.

Several villages under the Bokakhat block continue to reel under flood waters with no sign of any improvement in the situation.

The Dhansiri river has inundated large parts of the area with about 40 thousand hectares of farmland already inundated.

Meanwhile, a similar situation is being seen at Gogamukh in the Lakhimpur district which is seeing more than 20 villages being inundated by raging flood waters.

Meanwhile, the flood scenario in the Kaziranga area also continues to be serious. Incessant rains over the past week aggravated the flood scenario with some areas and villages being affected.

It is worth mentioning here that, over 65,000 people have been affected in districts of Assam. This is the third wave of flood in Assam this year.

As many as 22 relief centers have been set up in the affected districts of Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, and Nagaon.

Farmers in Gohpur are also bearing the brunt of floods, that too when the situation was just about coming to normal after the floods that wreaked havoc in the month of June.

Meanwhile, as many as 110 villages are reeling under flood waters in 11 revenue circles.

Earlier yesterday, floods took serious form at Shivaguri in Jonai. Incessant rains flooded the Siyang, Datung, and Dibang rivers affecting people in the area with seasonal harvests being damaged.

Likewise, the Gogamukh circle in the Dhemaji district is also facing the fury of floods.

The Jiyadhal and Kumatiya rivers are in spate with several areas being inundated. Locals schools have also been ordered to remain closed because of the floods. Locals are also facing a shortage of drinking water amid the raging floods.

Meanwhile, the River Brahmaputra is reportedly flowing above the danger level at Nimatighat in Majuli.

Ferry services as such have been affected severely. Barring the single-engine ferries, all other ferry services have been temporarily closed.
