In a historic milestone, the first space laboratory in a government school in Northeast India was inaugurated today at Sidli-Kashikotra Higher Secondary School in Chirang district of Assam.
“We want someone like Dr. Abdul Kalam to emerge from our region. The BTR government is working sincerely to increase the importance of science education in the region. A total of nine more space labs will be established in the BTR,” BTR Chief Pramod Boro said inaugurating the lab.
He also highlighted the importance of exposing students to advanced scientific concepts and practical experiences to broaden their horizons and boost their self-confidence.
Speaking to media persons, BTR Chief Pramod Boro said, “In today’s era, failure to provide students with exposure or to integrate these concepts into the education system will restrict students’ mentality and thinking capacity. Students should get some exposure in their hometown so that they can develop self-confidence. We will request the school authorities to allow students from other schools to come and see the space lab on Saturdays and Sundays. We have many schemes in the pipeline for the education department.”
With this initiative, the BTR government aims to inspire a new generation of scientists and innovators from the region.
The space lab has been set up as per the MoU signed between the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) government and Vyomika Space Academy, New Delhi, to set up space labs in 10 schools within the BTR.
The space lab, dedicated to the memory of Chino Basumatary, a journalist and activist renowned for his contributions to the Bodo community, aims to attract students to science education and foster their interest in space research.
This facility is the first of its kind in the northeast region.
Former Bijni MLA Kamalsingh Narzary, BTR Executive Members (EM) Gautam Das and Wilson Hasda, BTC Director of Education Jagadish Prasad Brahma and family members of Chino Basumatary were present at the inauguration.
