To boost the tea industry in Assam, the North Eastern Tea Association (NETA), in collaboration with Golaghat Commerce College, started a one-year ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Tea Plantation Management (PGDTPM)’ in 2016.

The course aims to impart training to aspiring local youths desirous of working in the tea industry.

The good news is that this year, first international student, Tiza Banda, from Zambia, has enrolled in the course. She wants to learn and apply skills to develop the tea industry in her country.

“We feel proud that coinciding with 200 years of Assam Tea, an international student has enrolled for our course and we expect it to increase manifold in days to come”, said Sunil Jallan, Chairman NETA CSR Committee.

NETA held an orientation program for the new batch of students under the able guidance of College Principal Dr. Utpal Sarma, NETA CSR Chairman Sunil Jallan, and Past Chairmen of NETA Manoj Jallan and Nepul Saikia.

The course coordinator and associate professor, Rajesh Jaiswal, and the program coordinator, Ranjit Kumar Mazumder, were also present.

Till now, seven batches of students have passed out successfully, and almost 100 percent of students have gotten placement.

NETA members produce 150+ million kg of tea annually, and therefore students get the opportunity to do their internship in the factory and garden owned by NETA members.
