Assam Police is conducting a nationwide crackdown to track Jihadi elements who are trying to disrupt peace and harmony in the state through terror modules.

Speaking exclusively to Northeast Live, Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that several Jihadis particularly from the Ansarul Bangla Team (ABT) have been apprehended so far and the arrests have been done not only in Assam but in states like Madhya Pradesh and Tripura as well.

Elaborating on the activities of the Jihadis, the DGP said that the radicalists are particularly attempting to spread their modules in Lower Assam and the Barak valley.

In what seems to be a matter of concern, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that the Jihadis are using a highly sophisticated communication system called steganography so that the information exchanged between the Jihadi terror modules cannot be intercepted.

Reportedly, the jihadis are mostly Bangladeshi nationals who are marrying local girls and staying and working on their terror module. Their sleeper cells are called ‘ANSARS’ which have already been activated.

Assam Police is on pan India crackdown with as many as 5 top Jihadi leaders who managed to give a slip to the security agencies.

Significantly, Mahanta revealed that the Ansarul Bangla team has already activated its sleeper cells called ANSARS in Assam. In fact, those, engaged in training Jihadis are spreading highly sensitive indoctrinating training videos targeting vulnerable youths.

Meanwhile, the Jihadi terror case has already been taken over by the NIA & sources said authorities are also considering whether to approach INTERPOL on the issue.
