Assam: Eminent artist Neel Pawan Baruah no more

Baruah established himself as a prolific painter, who was known for taking to unusual mediums to portray his paintings.
Eminent artist from Assam Neel Pawan Baruah breathed his last this afternoon at the age of 86.
Baruah was undergoing treatment at Gauhati Medical College Hospital (GMCH). He was admitted to the hospital on September 22 with high fever.
Born at Tamulisinga village in Eastern Assam’s Jorhat district, Baruah established himself as a prolific painter, who was known for taking to unusual mediums to portray his paintings.
Baruah joined art lessons in New Delhi after completing his education at Santiniketan in West Bengal.

A collection of 87 of paintings of Baruah were on display in 2012 at the State Art Gallery here as part of a program undertaken by the Nabakanta Baruah Foundation.
In 2021, Neel Pawan Baruah was bestowed the ‘Assam Sourabh’ award by the Government of Assam.
According to sources, Baruah would be cremated with state honours in Guwahati on Saturday.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has condoled the demise of Neel Pawan Baruah.
