Drugs worth Rs 4 cr seized in Assam, one woman held

Continuing with the crackdown on illegal drug trafficking in the state, Assam Police seized drugs worth over Rs 4 crore in Karimganj district, officials said on Thursday.

The seizure happened at Ratabari village in the Karimganj district.

Acting on a tip-off, Karimganj police carried out a search operation against the transportation of narcotic substances in the area. While police raided the house of a man, identified as Asar Uddin, drugs hidden in 29 soap boxes were recovered.

According to the police officer, the market value of the recovered drugs is Rs 4 crore.

Police have apprehended Asar Uddin’s wife Aisha Begum in this connection, while Asar is absconding.

A case has been registered in connection with this and further police investigation is on.

Last month too, Assam police seized 40,000 Yaba tablets and arrested two drug peddlers in Karimganj district.
