Damaged roads, weary hearts; Plight of Dima Hasao’s Diyungbra
The locals of Diyungbra have expressed their concerns and also highlighted the importance of the road.
The people of Diyungbra in Assam’s Dima Hasao district are passing through a difficult time due to alleged substandard construction of the Lanka – Umrangso – Garampani road.
Notably, this road from Lanka to Umrangso via Diyungmukh, Haflong Tiniali, and Panimur is an important one for the people of Dima Hasao which was sanctioned under the North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme.
While talking to the media, the locals of Diyungbra have expressed their concerns and also highlighted the importance of the road.
The locals said that the non-availability of side bums adjacent to the drains creates a risky situation for the people especially the elderly and the children.
Furthermore, they have demanded immediate reconstruction of the side drain and side bum. In order to address their concerns, various social organizations have voiced their woes before the Public Works Department but the locals allege inaction from the authorities.
Also, the locals have informed that the construction of side drains and side bams is substandard as they have used low-quality material while constructing the drain.
Earlier on April 16, a heavy downpour in the district caused severe landslides at several places. Scores of vehicles were stranded for 5-6 hours and people had a hard time commuting between certain places with road communication snapped.
