In a shocking incident of mob lynching in Assam, one dacoit was beaten to death by a mob of the irate public.
The incident took place in Boko where the public had captured two dacoits and thrashed them which resulted in one of the dacoits succumbing to his injuries.
Earlier, the two dacoits who had been part of a gang of four had committed a robbery at a shop in Rajapara.
The two robbers, who were armed with a pistol and a sharp weapon, had also attacked two locals and had managed to flee the spot. However, when police reached the spot and tried to pursue them, there was an exchange of fire in which one police commando identified as Ashraful Islam was injured.
Later, the two dacoits left their weapons near a paddy field and tried to escape the spot when they were nabbed by the locals and taken hostage. A mob of locals gathered and gave a sound thrashing to both the dacoits.
Later, the police managed to rescue the two dacoits from the irate mob and admitted them to a local hospital where one of them died.
The deceased has been identified as Dorsing Basumatary. Meanwhile, two other dacoits of the gang have been absconding. The other dacoit who was caught by the locals is currently in police custody.
