President of India Ram Nath Kovind today visited Tezpur University where he attended the 19th convocation ceremony as the chief guest.

A total of 1,260 students were awarded degrees in various disciplines at the convocation.

Governor Jagadish Mukhi and Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma were also present at the ceremony.

Addressing the event, President Kovind said that Tezpur University has the potential to be a centre of excellence.

President Kovind said that the university can play a role in promoting organic farming in the state.

Addressing the gathering, Chief Minister Sarma paid his homage to the martyrs of Assam Agitation and the founders of the prestigious Tezpur University.

The Chief Minister also spoke on the remarkable contributions being done by the researchers, faculty members and students of the university.

He informed that the state government will soon be establishing a sports complex on the university campus.

Today is the second day of President Kovind’s three-day visit to Assam.

After attending the convocation ceremony President Kovind flew to Kaziranga National Park to take stock of the conservation efforts of the famous one-horned Rhinocerous.
