The victims, both in their written and verbal statements said they were ragged, harassed and abusive language was used against them
Fourteen medical students of the Silchar Dental College have been rusticated from the hostel for their alleged involvement in ragging junior students. The rustication was done based on verbal and written statements submitted by the victims of ragging and the report of the anti-ragging squad of the Dental College. The accused students are continuing to attend classes.
Speaking to Northeast Live, Principal of the Dental College, Manjula Das said that she received complaint from some of the boarders of the boys’ hostel. The anti-ragging squad conducted the investigation and within 24 hours the authorities took action and rusticated the students against who the victims had complained. “I got the complaint on December 1 and on December 2 we took action after the anti-ragging squad did the probe based on the complaints from the victims. In both the written as well as verbal statements, the victims said that they were being ragged, harassed and abusive language was being used against them,” Principal Das said.
This is the third instance of ragging being reported from a higher education institute. Last month two cases of ragging has been reported – one from the Dibrugarh University and one from JB College, Jorhat. Another incident of ragging was reported from the Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalay of Moran in Dibrugarh.
