CM Sarma conducts aerial survey of flood-ravaged Barak Valley

Amid the situation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visit Barak Valley today to take first-hand stock of things.

Cachar district has been devastated by floods and Silchar has been the worst affected with all localities and main roads in the town submerged.

An aerial view of Silchar and its outskirts brings out the scary picture and the grim situation that the over 2 lakh residents of the town, which is Barak Valley’s biggest commercial hub, are enduring.

Amid the situation, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visit Barak Valley today to take first-hand stock of things.

Chief Minister Sarma conducted an aerial survey of Cachar and its adjoining areas and also held a crucial meeting with Deputy Commissioners and top officials of the three districts of Cachar, Karimganj, and Hailakandi.

CM Sarma while taking stock of relief operations

After reviewing the situation, CM Sarma informed that more Army columns will arrive tomorrow to assist the NDRF and SDRF personnel in relief and rescue operations. CM Sarma informed that more essential items will be brought from Guwahati in a special aircraft.

Focus is also on the restoration of electricity supply and APDCL engineers will arrive to restore transformers. Besides this, 1 lakh bottles of drinking water will be transported from Guwahati on a daily basis starting tomorrow.

Chief Minister Sarma also exuded confidence that if there is no rain in the next 48 hours, the situation will improve.

Earlier, Chief Minister Sarma conducted an aerial survey of Silchar town along with MP Rajdeep Roy and Cachar DC Kirti Jalli.

The Indian Air Force has been air-dropping relief materials since this morning to the flood-affected people in Silchar. As you can see on your screens, IAF choppers delivered relief items on the roofs of people’s homes as they continue to reel under floods.
