First Published: 29th July, 2024 17:02 IST

The program aims to address the growing demand for skilled manpower in the hospitality sector while providing career opportunities for the youth of BTR

The Tourism Department of Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has initiated a hospitality industry training programme for enthusiastic youths from the region. This initiative aims to equip young people with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the hospitality sector, one of the fastest-growing industries worldwide. The programme is expected to generate employment opportunities and contribute to the economic growth of the region.

Dharma Narayan Das, Executive Member (EM) of BTR, highlighted the significance of this programme during a press conference. He emphasized that empowering the youth with industry-specific skills would not only benefit the participants but also foster a skilled workforce to support the local tourism sector, thereby boosting the regional economy.

“We have been very successful in our initiatives over the last three years,” Das stated while speaking to media persons. “Last year, 49 students from BTR were selected for the Assam Public Service Commission (APSC). Similarly, students have been excelling in competitive exams like JEE and NEET. Last year, in collaboration with the Tourism Department, we selected and trained 20 students in the hospitality industry, all of whom were placed in various companies across India. This year, we have selected another 20 students based on a written test and interview. Their classes will commence on August 5, and after six months of training, they will be eligible for placements in five-star hotels across the country. The hotel industry has seen significant growth post-Covid, and we have also witnessed a three to fourfold increase in footfall at Manas National Park this year.”, Das said.

The programme aims to address the growing demand for skilled manpower in the hospitality sector while providing career opportunities for the youth of BTR. With the industry booming, particularly in the post-Covid era, the initiative is poised to make a substantial impact on the region’s socio-economic development.
