During the border talks held on November 17 last year, both states had decided that Mizoram will furnish the list of villages, their areas, geospatial extent, ethnicity of the people

Assam government is likely to take time to respond to the claims made by Mizoram, Assam Border Development and Protection Minister Atul Bora told Northeast Live today.

“Actually Mizoram did not submit claims before, like Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya. An unfortunate incident had taken place in the border, after that also we had several round of talks. The last discussion took place in Guwahati probably in the month of November 2022. In that meeting they had given committment that they will submit their claims after survey in the border area. Accordingly they have submitted”, the minister said.

When asked as to how soon a development into the issue can be expected, Bora replied,”It may take some more time because as you know that the border issue is very sensitive and we have to handle it very carefully. But there should be no doubt about strong political will of our CM, to resolve this issue.”

Speaking on the current status of talks between both the governments, Atul Bora informed,”We have recieved communication from our counterpart government and we are discussing on it. Recently I have spoken to the home minister, Govt of Mizoram and the election is very close, they are also busy. Even then there is a need to discuss, so we are planning to do so.”

During the border talks held on November 17 last year, both states had decided that Mizoram will furnish the list of villages, their areas, geospatial extent, ethnicity of the people and other relevant information within three months to support its claims.
