The Assam BJP has named Mrigen Sarania as the new mayor for Guwahati Municipal Corporation. The name of the new mayor was declared at a key meeting held in the state BJP headquarters in presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, state BJP president Bhabesh Kalita, and other leaders of the party.

The party also chose Smita Roy of ward no 22 for the deputy mayor’s position.

It may be mentioned here that the results of the recently held GMC polls were out on April 14, wherein BJP-AGP alliance won 58 out of the total 60 GMC wards.

Voting for GMC polls took place on April 22.
