Amid tall claims that development has covered nook and corner of Assam, the picture is quite different at the Haflong Civil Hospital in the Dima Hasao district.
Things are absolutely in bad shape as there is a severe water crisis in the sole referral hospital in the district.
Not only the staff at the hospital, but patients as well as their attendants too are facing severe distress as they have to depend on natural sources of water for different purposes.
To assess the situation, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Executive Member Donpainan Thaosen accompanied by officials of the PHED and members of Blue Hills Society, today visited the hospital and assured necessary steps to resolve the issue.
“We conducted a joint inspection today and we are hoping that the issue of water crisis in the hospital will be resolved soon. There is a dedicated line already for the hospital area, but a borewell got damaged because of which water cannot be supplied. The damaged part is being replaced. We will also connect the hospital with the PHED water supply line as a backup. The concerned departments have discussed and it will be done soon. Once this happens, I think there will be no further water problem in the hospital,” Thaosen said.
