Assam SI recuritment scam: Former Karimganj SP Kumar Sanjit Krishna granted bail by Gauhati HC

The Gauhati High Court has granted bail to Kumar Sanjit Krishna, former Karimganj SP who was arrested in connection with the Assam Police sub-inspector recruitment scam in 2020.

Sanjit Krishna was arrested on October 15, 2020 in connection with the scam.

Hearing the bail petition today, a Bench headed by Justice Mridul Kalita allowed Kumar Sanjit Krishna to go on bail with certain conditions. Prannoy Kumar Roy Choudhury appeared as the Defence lawyer for Kumar Sanjit Krishna, while advocate Makhon Phukan appeared for the State of Assam as Public Prosecutor.

The case pertains to leakage of question papers for the recruitment of Sub Inspectors to the Assam Police. As per schedule, the examination was supposed to be on September 20, 2020 but owing to the situation was postponed till November 22.

An FIR was filed by Pradip Kumar, the then Chairman of the State Level Police Recruitment Board, with the IGP (CID), stating that the written test for recruitment that was to be held at various centers under the supervision of District Level Recruitment Committees, had to be canceled as the question papers were leaked and circulated on WhatsApp.

Over 50 people were arrested in connection with the case including former DIG PK Dutta were arrested in connection with the case. DIG PK Dutta who was the prime accused in the case was granted bail in September last year.
