Assam Police to set up CCTV cams in Entry & Exit Points of Guwahati

Assam Police has intensified vigil in Guwahati city in the wake of recent incidents of crime. Technology to be roped in for better policing.
Stepping up the security arrangements of Guwahati, Assam Police has decided to install IP based CCTV cameras at all entry and exit points of the city, the gateway to Northeast. The installation will be completed within a span of 30-45 days and the entire cost will be borne by Assam Police, Special DGP GP Singh said.
“Incorporation of technology will help the police in dealing with crimes as well as providing people safety and security through best standards of policing. For this purpose, all expenses will be borne by the Assam Police,” Special DGP Singh said after the meeting that was attended by Officer-In-Charges of respective police stations, ACPs, DCPs as well as other police officials under the Guwahati Police Commissionerate.
The meeting also discussed ways to resolve unsolved cases and preparing a roadmap to prevent crimes in the city.
The meeting assumes significance since it comes in the backdrop of the recent daylight shooting in Panjabari that killed one man and other incidents of crime and robbery.
Several other crimes amid the rising incidents of crime in Guwahati and especially after a Purabi Dairy distributor, Ranjit Borah was shot dead in broad daylight while he was going to deposit cash in a bank in the Panjabari area.
An IP camera, or Internet protocol camera, is a type of digital camera commonly used for surveillance.
