Assam Police to Form SIT to Probe Recovered Bomb-Like Substance In State, Announces Cash Reward of Rs 5 Lakh on Info

Assam DGP GP Singh informed today that an SIT will be formed to probe the bomb-like objects from several locations of the state planted by the banned militant outfit United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I).

The Joint CP will be in charge of the SIT. DGP Singh added that SITs will also be formed in the concerned districts led by additional SP crime.

DGP GP Singh also requested public support for information in the ongoing investigation and announced a cash reward of up to Rs 5 lakh for anyone giving credible information on persons involved in making, transporting, and planting these devices.

DGP Singh also exuded confidence that the Assam police will crack the case even as he added that no stone will be left unturned to ensure peace prevails in Assam.

4 cases have been registered in connection with the recoveries made in Guwahati.

Police recovered bomb-like materials from Satgaon and Last Gate areas of the city today.

This comes after yesterday’s recoveries from Pan Bazar (heart of the city and a busy locality) and Gandhi Mandap area of the city as the Assam Police continued its search operations for possible explosives post the ULFA-Independent’s bomb threat.

It may be mentioned that the ULFA-I in the mail on Wednesday claimed that explosives had been planted in around 25 locations in Guwahati, Sivasagar, Lakua, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Laluk, Borghat, Nalbari, Tamulpur and Dibrugarh.

Following this, Assam Police had launched search operations across the state and recovered suspicious materials from various places.

According to reports, the group’s devices reportedly failed to detonate due to technical malfunctions.
