Assam Police recovers Yaba tablets worth over Rs 50 cr, 2 brothers arrested

In one of the biggest crackdowns against drugs, the Assam Police have recovered a huge consignment of Yaba tablets worth over Rs 50 crore in Silchar in Cachar district.

What is more interesting is the fact that 2 brothers were running this illegal trade of narcotics. Both of them have been identified as Rubel Hussain Mazumdar and Saidul Hussain Mazumdar.

Reiterating that the War against Drugs by the Assam Police shall continue, Cachar SP Numal Mahatta said,”Today in the wee hours we launched a special operation, in Silchar city there is a place called Bagador. During the operations, we have recovered huge quantity of Yaba tablets 5 lakh in numbers, from the house of Rubel Hussain Mazumdar S/O Lt. Botai Mia Mazumder. From the possession of this person and his brother Saidul Hussain Mazumdar, we have recovered huge quantity of Yaba tablets.”

The Cachar SP informed that the duo were planning to send the consignment to other parts of the country. “During the operation we also seized the vehicle which was used for transportation of the consignment. That vehicle was used by Rubel Hussain Mazumdar and they were bringing these narcotics from a nearby state and they were planning to transport it to other parts of the country, SP Mahatta added.

Cachar SP Numal Mahatta sharing more details about the seizure and further probe pointed out that the police has already accessed leads suggesting about the involvement of other persons too in smuggling of pychotropic substances.

The Cachar SP said,”During the investigation we have found that a number of other persons are associated with these persons (Rubel & Saidul), who are in some way or the other involved in illegal transportation o f drugs. We are investigating into it and we are trying our level best to book these persons and bring them under the purview of law. We have also taken steps so that these narcotic substances cannot be sneaked into our areas. The market price of this narcotics consignment is more than Rs 50 crore.”

Meanwhile, in a clear and stern warning SP Mahatta maintained that the police is on the job to book the bigger face behind drugs trade. He said,”Within 7 days, this is the 2nd bigger catch and we are also trying to bring the bigger faces, who are behind this (drugs trade) behind the bars.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma praised the efforts of the police.

“#AssamAgainstDrugs@cacharpolice recovered 50 packets containing 5 lakhs Yaba tablets from a consignment coming from Myanmar via a neighbouring state at Bagador, Silchar. Also apprehended two accused. Great work @assam police. Keep it up,” the Assam Chief Minister said in a tweet.

On March 28, Assam Police have seized drugs worth Rs 2 crore in Cachar district and arrested two persons in connection. The seizure took place near Silchar where 33 soap boxes filled with heroin were seized. 2 persons were also arrested.

Earlier, on March 23, a 33-year-old resident of Mizoram’s capital Aizawl was arrested in Silchar town while transporting 1.5 lakh Yaba Tablets in a SUV. As per inputs, the Yaba tablets were kept in a secret chamber built inside the spare wheel of the vehicle.

“The price of Yaba tablets are dynamic in Indian markets and the estimated price of these seized tablets can be Rs 15 to 60 crore,” police had said after the seizure.
