Assam Police in touch with Bangladesh over Jihadi activities

DGP Mahanta said that the police have successfully unearthed a huge network of conspirators who had tried to indoctrinate local youths into a Jihadi mindset.

The Assam Police is in touch with the Bangladesh government to combat the activities of Jihadi elements operating from foreign soil and trying to expand in Assam as well as the Northeast.

This has been informed to Northeast Live by none other than Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta. Talking to Northeast Live, the Assam top cop further said that the Assam Police will also soon move the INTERPOL on the Jihadi issue.

However, DGP Mahanta said that the police have successfully unearthed a huge network of conspirators who had tried to indoctrinate local youths into a Jihadi mindset.

Despite this, the Assam DGP expressed concern over the mode of communication used by the Jihadis and their handlers in Bangladesh, terming it as worrisome and sophisticated.

DGP Mahanta said that the Ansarul Bangla Team which is an affiliate of the Al Qaeda (Indian Sub-continent), is behind the ongoing Jihadi activities in Assam.

Meanwhile, in a significant statement, DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta informed that the Ansarul Bangla Team is trying to expand its tentacles in Lower Assam as well as in the Barak valley and also in Tripura.

DGP Mahanta further added that the Assam police is actively working in close coordination with its counterparts in other states to stop Jihadi activities and unearth the financial way of transaction of such elements.

But what seems to be a case of serious concern is the fact that the Jihadis are trying to create an eco-system in Assam and give shape to their nefarious plans. Assam DGP Bhaskar Jyoti Mahanta said that the handlers are trying to create more sleeper cells in Assam.
