Assam police destroys drugs worth over Rs 43 cr

Assam Police today destroyed drugs worth Rs 43 crore. The items set on fire included foreign cigarettes worth Rs.29.66 crore and 9000 kg of Marijuana valued at Rs 14.44 crores.

The narcotics seized during raids earlier, were set ablaze in Sualkuchi on the outskirts of Guwahati.

Chairman, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) Sanjay Kumar Agarwal, Chief Commissioner CGST and Customs Guwahati Zone Bandhana Deori besides other dignitaries were present on the occasion.

Speaking on the occasion, CBIC Chairman Agarwal said, “CBIC has taken it upon itself for destruction of drugs to clear up the space and to work towards achieving Nasha Mukt Bharat. The drive is in full swing this year too. The value of ganja which is being destroyed today is Rs 14 crore and the cigarettes which are being destroyed is valued at Rs 29 crore.”

Earlier on July 17, Assam Police destroyed, burnt down large quantities of seized contraband drugs in Guwahati. Among the drugs destroyed were around 20,000 units of cough syrup bottles, 3,100 kgs of ganja, and heroin weighing more than 7 kgs along with brown sugar.
