The counting of votes for the Assam Municipal Elections 2022 is underway.

Polling for a total of 977 wards of 80 municipalities was held on March 6.

So far, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has emerged victorious in as many as four municipalities. These inlcude North Guwahati, Sotia, Lamding and Chabua.

As per the latest inputs, BJP has sealed victory in 8 out of the 10 seats in Chabua, while the remaining two have been won by its alliance partner Asom Gana Parishad.

It may be mentioned here that over 2,500 candidates had contested the elections, of which those from 57 wards have already been declared winners as they were uncontested.

Electronic Voting Machines were used for the first time in Assam for conducting the civic body polls.
