It has been more than 24 hours since the massive avalanche hit Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand, but there is still no trace of missing Assam mountaineer Deepshikha Hazarika.
Deepshikha has been confirmed to be one of those missing in the massive avalanche in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi.
Deepshikha, who hails from Guwahati, is a trainee at the Uttarkashi-based Nehru Institute of Mountaineering.
Meanwhile, Deepshikha’s distraught parents have appealed to Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma to make sure that their daughter returns home safely.
The 41-member team of trainee mountaineers were hit by the avalanche that occurred at around 8.45 am on Tuesday when they were returning along with their instructors after climbing the peak.
The Advance Mountaineering Course met with the avalanche that occurred above camp-1 in which 34 trainees and 7 mountaineering instructors were caught under avalanche while returning back from the mountain peak.
At least 10 bodies have been recovered from the avalanche-hit area in Uttarkashi, and a search is on for the other 24 climbers who are still missing.
Meanwhile, search operations are underway to locate the missing mountaineers. The air force is conducting search and rescue operations even in the face of inclement weather now and then.
