In a significant development for Assam’s political landscape, State BJP President Bhabesh Kalita today announced that several leaders from various political parties are expected to join the BJP soon.
Addressing the media, Kalita took a dig at a section of BJP members who are considering leaving the party and said that those departing were primarily individuals who had entered politics for personal gain rather than for the sake of public service.
Bhabesh Kalita’s statement comes even as the Assam BJP is gearing up on a war footing for the ensuing elections to be held for 5 assembly and 2 Rajya Sabha seats of Assam.
The Assam BJP in this regard has sent the list of 10 probable candidates to the Central Committee for the elections to be held for 2 Rajya Sabha seats.
The party has also formed election committees for the by-elections to be held for 5 assembly seats– Samaguri, Behali, Dholai, Sidli, and Bongaigaon.
The responsibility of the same has been given to the ministers of the Assam government.
By-election has been necessitated in the 5 assembly seats after these seats fell vacant after the incumbents were elected to the Lok Sabha in the recently held general election.
The two Rajya Sabha seats in Assam fell vacant as the sitting members- Sarbananda Sonowal and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa were elected to the 18th Lok Sabha in April this year.
