Assam: Kokrajhar All Geared Up To Host Durand Cup

This is the second time that Kokrajhar is set to host the prestigious tournament
The Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) is set to host the 133rd edition of the prestigious Durand Cup, India’s oldest football tournament, at the SAI Stadium. Final preparations are underway, including the use of modern technology to renovate the stadium, ensuring seamless organisation of the upcoming tournament.
Scheduled to commence in Kolkata on July 27, the 133rd Durand Cup will feature matches not only in Kolkata but also in Shillong (Meghalaya), Jamshedpur (Jharkhand), and Kokrajhar. Kokrajhar will host its inaugural game on July 30. Sx league matches and a quarter-final are slated to be held in Kokrajhar.
Speaking to Northeast Live Assam Football Association, general secretary Sangrang Brahma informed that they are looking forward to hosting the tournament.
“We are fully prepared to host the prestigious tournament, and accordingly, preparations are going on in full swing. This time, four teams will play six league games here. The teams are Bodoland FC, NorthEast United FC, Odisha FC and BSF,” Brahma informed.
This is the second time that Kokrajhar is set to host the prestigious tournament. Since some issues arose last time due to the rains, the organisers have made sure that this time everything goes smoothly.
“The ground has undergone immense renovation in the past year, and today, we can proudly say that this is one of the best football grounds in the northeast. We are confident we can host the tournament without any hiccups,” Brahma said.
Speaking on Bodoland FC’s preparations, Brahma said, “Being a local team, the football enthusiasts are looking forward to Bodoland FC’s matches. They have been camping here for around one and a half months. The team has put in a lot of hard work, and we expect them to put up a good show.”
“Apart from witnessing some thrilling football games, arrangements have also been made to entertain the spectators with cultural shows of various kinds. Apart from local cultural troupes, Kokborok & Dimasa cultural troupes will also stage performances here. We also have made arrangements for troupes of various tribes to stage performances,” Brahma said.
