Assam: Kamrup District admin provides over Rs 2 crore to Silsako evicted families

In some relief for the evicted families in Silsako, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Kamrup (Metro) district has provided Rs 2.25 crore as compensation in the second phase to the evicted people in Silsako, Guwahati for the damage to their houses.

Earlier, the Kamrup Metro District Disaster Management Authority Chairman and District Commissioner Pallav Gopal Jha had announced a sum of Rs 75 lakh as one-time assistance to the families.

Earlier, DDMA announced that owners of the 14 RCC houses that have been demolished will receive Rs. 10 lakh, while Rs 5 lakh will be provided as compensation to each of the five Assam-type houses destroyed during the eviction drive.

A tense situation prevailed at Silsako earlier this week after a group of women carried out semi-naked protests on the banks of Silsako Bill in Guwahati against the state government’s massive eviction drive.
Police have arrested nine people, including women, who were protesting.

The state government has assured to settle the affected people in Guwahati itself. These people will be given residential flats by the government.
